These types of armour were mainly for the nobles and knights in the middle ages as it was quite costly to produce and each suit of armour had to be made to fit the wearer. The armour protected most of the body using overlapping plates of metal secured by rivets or leather straps.
Plate Mail Armour with Chain Mail underneath
The armour was made so that the overall weight was spread out evenly over the body and underneath the armour the warrior wore a padded gambeson for comfort and also chain mail armour to cover the vulnerable parts that were left exposed.
The main difference between Full Plate Mail and Plate Mail armour is that Plate Mail armour doesn't cover the whole body like Full Plate Mail armour.
